Building Energy Simulation

GreenSim’s core business is the development of computerized building energy models.  The purpose of these models is to better understand the energy utilization profiles of a building and how the elements and systems of the building impact the energy use.

For new building designs, simulations allow for comparative analyses of elements of the design, such as fenestration or mechanical systems, providing a means of quantifying energy-efficiency improvements to optimize the building design, and to forecast the energy profiles. This is a key component to the integrated design process or IDP.

Building simulation can also be used to evaluate the energy use in existing buildings as a basis for understanding the current energy use and to project energy savings associated with building upgrades.

GreenSim typically uses eQUEST and EE4 energy simulation software for building energy modeling.  Both are hourly energy simulation packages built upon the DOE-2 energy calculation engine.  We have experience with other specialized energy analysis software including RETScreen, FRAME Plus, WINDOW.
